About Me

Hi, I'm Mrs. Ferguson

For 25 years, I've specialized in helping students with dyslexia discover that they're not broken—their brains just work differently. And differently can be extraordinary.

My Story

When I first started teaching elementary school, I noticed something that changed the course of my career: some of the brightest, most creative kids in my classroom were struggling with reading. They weren't “slow” or “lazy”—they had dyslexia, and the traditional approach simply wasn't built for how their brains worked.

That realization led me to pursue specialized training in dyslexia intervention. I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, multisensory method proven to help dyslexic learners build reading skills systematically. In Texas, dyslexia now falls under special education, and I've helped countless families navigate that process while providing the intensive intervention their children need.

Over 25 years, I've worked with hundreds of students with dyslexia—from kindergartners showing early warning signs to older students who've gone years without proper support. Nothing brings me more joy than watching a student go from “I'm stupid” to “My brain just works differently—and that's awesome.”

My Teaching Philosophy

“Dyslexia is not a deficit—it's a different way of processing language. With the right intervention, every child with dyslexia can learn to read and thrive.”

I combine structured literacy intervention with genuine warmth and patience. Sessions are systematic but engaging—because kids with dyslexia learn best when they feel safe, understood, and empowered. I work closely with parents and school teams to ensure that progress carries over into the classroom and home.
